Stock pistons can often withstand high power levels without failure. However, they also can be easily and instantly broken by unintended but destructive detonation episodes, even momentary ones at high HP levels.

Detonation can occur from a number of factors or combinations of these factors. Usually these factors add up to an incorrect tuning condition, and if sufficient detonation occurs, the resultant violent, extremely high pressure uneven loading can crack the piston.

JE Forged pistons are custom designed for the 4g63 Evo engine, and are highly recommended for use with higher HP systems. They are many times more resistant to the damage detonation can produce over stock cast pistons. They also employ features better suited to the higher HP engine, as well as a more robust ring set and wrist pin.
